Makeup School & Fashion Stylist Courses by Elite Makeup Schools

Secrets of the pros that no one has told you...Beauty and Image: art or technique?

When I’m at Elite, lots of people ask me if you need to have a special talent to learn makeup.  Many of my clients tell me, “I’m no good at making myself look my best!” My answer to these comments and questions is always the same: makeup, hairdressing, and style are skills that you can learn easily if you have the tools and correct information.

When we created Tu Imagen Personal I knew I wanted to teach techniques for making the most of your image, whether you already know a lot or nothing at all about image.  Well, that’s the same philosophy we have at Elite Make Up, to teach makeup to everyone who wants to learn.  We train hundreds of professional makeup artists every year, and many of them start to work in the profession even before finishing the course.  How do they do it? With good teaching and training, and it’s the same as for you: if you want to learn to make the most of yourself you just have to get to it, look for all the information you can and practice!

Why am I telling you this? Because I am of the opinion that with good systems and professional tricks and tools you can easily make the most of yourself.  This is my objective and that of the entire tu imagen personal team: give you all the information you need to make the most of yourself!

What are we going to talk about in this bulletin?
Secrets of the pros:

  • A MAKEUP SECRET

One of the secrets of professional makeup artists is the tools, including the brushes and products they use.  Notice in the photo how Claudia is using a brush to blend the shadow.

The secret?
Natural-hair brushes (normally sable) for applying powder shadows
Synthetic-hair brushes to apply corrector, and always have a good goat hair brush handy to apply blush and powder.

The difference between making up your eyes with a professional brush and with the fingertips is so great that you can’t even imagine.  Why do you think makeup artists use brushes? Because it’s much easier and more precise.

  • A HAIRSTYLING SECRET

In the last bulletin I talked about a “new tool” that will make your life easier when it’s time to style and straighten your hair, a trend that’s popular this coming season for straight or wavy hair.  I told you that the tool you have to have is a ceramic iron. Well, I myself got one but the result wasn’t what I wanted – so what did I do? I called Tony, a former Elite student, professional makeup artist and hairstylist and asked him to tell me his tricks for how to use the iron, and these are his secrets:

The first thing to do is use a product to protect the hair before doing anything else.
If you want to give volume to the hair you should use the iron in such a way as to give volume from the beginning, as in photo 1.

If on the other hand you want to totally straighten your hair, you should first dry it and straighten it with a large brush.  It doesn’t matter if it comes out wild (says Tony) because the idea is to straighten the root and dry the hair.  Then with one pass of the iron the hair will be totally straight.  I’ve tried it and it works – look at photo 2!

Finally if you want to add waves to your hair or make ringlets, roll the hair around the iron as you see in photo 3 and then comb it out with your fingers.
My suggestion: get a ceramic iron of good quality that doesn’t damage the hair too much, and adjust the temperature to your hair type!

  • A STYLE SECRET

Yesterday I was in Elite Barcelona with Marta Archs, the director of Elite Barcelona, preparing some short style videos. Marta, an image expert and professional makeup artist told me a style secret I want to share here with you:

When you sit down and are wearing a short skirt or tight pants, to avoid showing undesirable bulges or cellulite, sit on the edge of the chair and when you cross your legs don’t squeeze. This is how all the celebrities and models always sit!

Professionals, explaining the secret of how to sit in a chair.
